MARLEE
four - female - feline - eurasian lynx - iris - auditioning for leadership
Personality: Marlee is an interesting feline. She involves herself deeply within Iris, doing what she can to help everyone. She takes pride in everything she does, never complaining about any duties given to her by anyone. Though she isn't much of a talker at the moment, she will speak when spoken to, or if she feels she has to make herself known. She's very open-minded, eager to hear what others have to say and give her own ideas based on them to help each new idea grow. A lot of times, especially around cubs and those in need of her help, Marlee is gentle. She handles everyone with care as best as she can.
However, do not let this softness confuse you. When she has to be, Marlee is a formidable feline. She's always ready for a fight, though will not rush into every battle. She's calm is most situations, and knows which battles are worth fighting, and which are best left alone. She doesn't see herself as a leader, but does her best when leadership is put on her shoulders even temporarily. She is a cat that believes in justice, and if put in charge of others who are in trouble, she will be sure to get both sides of the story before passing judgement. She is a fair cat, and lives by "don't judge a book by it's cover".
Appearance: Marlee is a young, fit lynx. Her coat is a beautiful shade of brown with darker stripes and lighter spots. Her underside is white with small shadows of spots. Her tail, like most lynx, is short and tipped with black. She has triangular ears that seem to take in every sound around her, and golden eyes that never miss a thing, seemingly. Her fur is thick, and very soft to the touch. On her left hip, she has three strips of missing fur which reveal a scar. Don't ask her how she got it, because she won't tell you.
History: Marlee's life was never easy. From the start, it was survival of the fittest. She was born into the Iris tribe during the darkness of war, and her mother had died birthing her and her siblings. It wasn't long after her birth that her father, Tiberius, started pushing her brothers and her toward the ranks of warriors, training them hard. Marlee, of course, did what she was told. But it was not easy, and she had no help. Her father would take them all from camp, and train them in secret. They would come back exhausted, and go to sleep.
At a year old, Marlee was already growing strong and powerful thanks to her father's ruthless training exercises. She was learning her body quickly. How she could move, how fast, what her limits were. Though the training was hard, she felt it was worth the pain and exhaustion. But on one particularly moody day for her father, she was trying to perfect a fighting move and Tiberius lost his patience. He tackled Marlee to the ground, pinned her there, and slashed her left hip, demanding she learn faster and get the move right, or he would kill her. No hesitation.
Fear motivated the young female, and despite the new injury on her leg, she did her best to make her father proud. And she did, after two more attempts. She was able to overpower her brother and forced him to surrender. As a reward, she was excused from the rest of training. However, she did not leave. She wanted to prove she could go above and beyond to win the fight. Though not impressed, but proud of Marlee, Tiberius let her stay. She continued to train, but by the end of the night, she was stiff and sore, and tired.
She went to sleep that night after cleaning her wound and self-treating it, then having a dreamless sleep. In the morning, her leg was stiff as a board, but she refused to upset Tiberius and stretched the muscles until they were loose enough to move without too much pain. Again, from dawn until dusk, she trained. But as the years went by, and she was allowed into battle, she saw what war really looked like. Her father had made it sound glorious. It was anything but. All she saw was pain, and suffering, and death. She did not like it.
Then, just two weeks ago, in a small border skirmish, Tiberius was killed and Marlee had watched it happen. She did her best to protect her father, but it had not been enough, and after the fight both parties dispersed. Marlee took the time to bury her father, and sent a silent prayer that his spirit find peace. She's unsure if he really did find peace or not in the afterlife, but it's all she could do. She still visits his grave site, even talking to him even though she knows she will never hear his voice again in the waking world.
Season born: summer
RP Sample: The day had been long and exhausting for the young feline. She had done her share of patrolling, and hunted from noon well into the evening. Now, as she sat on the rooftop of a rundown candy store, the breeze dancing gently through her soft fur, she couldn't help but let her mind wander over the recent events. One that bothered her the most was the elimination of Lexis. She knew the reasoning behind their execution, but for some reason it didn't sit right with her. All they had wanted was peace and quiet in Hexasol. And they had died for their wishes.
It didn't seem exactly fair, despite having been in the fight that had taken out the co-existing felines and canines. She sighed softly through her reddish-brown nostrils, and her ears angled slightly back. Closing her golden eyes, she could almost hear her father laughing in her ears. Saying that Lexis had gotten what they deserved. That they were weak, spineless vermin that had no more right to live than Tempest. A soft growl rumbled in her throat. Maybe that was true. Maybe it wasn't. To Marlee, everyone deserved to live, but their worth was dependent entirely on what they did with their life.
She sighed softly once more, standing up and looking at the full moon. Despite all the hell her father had brought into her life, she had to admit that she missed him. He had been the one that had taught her strength, and courage. And right now, she needed both dearly. With Lexis gone, and the war still raging like a never-ending fire out of control, she wasn't sure if Iris would survive. They had so few members now compared to what they had once been. They needed all the strength and courage they could get. She looked at the moon once more, and spoke softly. "Father, you left too soon... Iris needs you now more than ever..."
