CHIONE
4 years - female - canine - ibizan hound - n/a - n/a
Personality:
The first thing many will notice about Chione upon meeting her is the cruel, suspicious air that hangs around her. She has a difficult time trusting others, even after she has known them for some time. Her tactic with being forced to cooperate with other canines is to simply grin and bear it, only barely standing their presence. She does not 'play nicely' with others, unless they have worked to earn her respect. Those who try her small patience will be quick to right their wrongs. Chione's temper is well known to those few who see her regularly. She won't hesitate to snap and growl, but usually prefers her chilling glare and crisp voice to get her point across. What's more is that she rarely ever forgets a face; especially if it has 'wronged' her in any way. To those with prior infractions, Chione has been known to be especially vile. She can and will hold a grudge without hesitation.
However, should one gain her trust and respect, a totally different side can be shown. Though only shown in privacy, and even then on special occasions, Chione has been known to be playful. Rigid and unloving around any other canine, when she lets loose, she goes all out. Prancing about like a clumsy yearling, Chione will dance around and even entice the other to play. Her laugh has seldom been heard, but it is rumoured to sound like that of sharp autumn wind. If anyone brings it up outside the special group of creatures who have experienced it, it is grounds for not only being thoroughly chewed out, but also grounds to be cut cleanly out of Chione's life. She tries very hard to maintain the image she has, and if anyone dares so much as to try to smudge it in even the smallest way, their head will become her next prize.
The select few who do get this close and are wise enough to keep it secret can be reassured a comfortable life. Chione refuses to provide nothing but the best for those whom she feels so oddly for. One can expect a firm guard, a worried caretaker, and even a jealous lover at times. If Chione finds someone who she feels is of high value to her attention, she feels the same should be said for her in their eyes.
Yet, that happens to so few others. But why, might one ask. She is such a lady, after all. To those like herself, she is. But to anyone with even the slightest bit of 'dirty blood' in them, to Chione, they are filth. Quite simply put, she is racist to an extreme few can fathom. She despises mutts, mixbreeds, hybrids, etc. with every fiber of her being. She finds them to be genetically inferior; hybrid vigor is complete rubbish to her. She can't help but gag or sniff when a dog or cat of mixed heritage walks by, and often openly puts them down. She isn't shy about her feelings towards them, just as many aren't shy about their hate for her. To her, there are only two sides; pure and muddied.
Appearance: True to her breed, Chione has the general appearance of a doe. Her body is tall and lithe; her head being held assertively alert at all times, her large ears pricked to catch the softest of sounds. Chione's eyes are small, but hold a quiet, scheming look to them. A light amber colour, they are slowly and steadily growing cloudy with age, leading Chione to lose her sight as the years pass. Her muzzle is long and sharp, typically turned up at those she finds to be 'beneath her'. From the head, Chione's neck is slender, but toned. Her skin is stretched neatly over her body, leaving little room for excess weight.
Chione's chest and front legs are held straight and even with her neck at all times. Being a canine of high stature, her legs are long and slender. Power and speed are still evident from the shoulders and hips, but a defining grace can be seen from Chione's gait. She almost prances rather than trots or walks; her head stuck defiantly upward and her tail waving gracefully behind her. Her paws are more delicate than most, and shaped like that of a hare's. But what they lack in strength, they make up for with agility. From the shoulders on, a relatively straight, flexible back leads to Chione's slender, sickle tail.
More suited for warmer climates, her coat is thin and short. Rarely does she ever shed or collect vast amounts of dirt on her pelt. But, with that comes the price of low tolerance for cold weather. Chione has a harder time than most keeping fit and healthy during the winter months. Despite it being a blessing for cleanliness and a curse in the cold, Chione often admits how pretty her colouring is. A light red with clean white contrast, Chione could almost be a poster child for what her breed was meant to look like. She has a bald head, her colour absent from her head, neck, chest, and slightly between her shoulders. Her markings are otherwise varied, her upper half being the most symmetrical of them. On her left hind leg, one marking stretches down her leg and into the white, said to look similar to a cat snarling. As if defining who she was from birth, it as if it is a stamp declaring her decidedly catty nature.
History: Chione has as of yet been blessed with a simple past, despite what it has made her into. Her mother and father were both heavily prejudiced against other breeds; as well as slightly inbred themselves. They had been the pets before the humans 'vanished', but growing bored of their life tied down to the naked apes, they escaped and never returned. Despite the hardships they faced, their views stood strong. They saw themselves, as purebreds, to be superior to all other mixed creatures, typically canines. As such, after struggling to hold their own in the open wild, they had a litter, of which Chione was a pup, and attempted to raise their young with such ideals.
From an early age, Chione rejected her parents' teachings. She did recognize herself as superior to mutts, but could not dismiss the value of them. She saw that if her parents wished to create a pack that held real strength within its members, the vast majority of mixed dogs would be of greater use than the otherwise low number of purebreds. Though, having an open opinion against her parents', Chione was quickly known to be the 'black sheep' of the family. Because of this, she led a bitter life until the age of two, when she separated herself from her her siblings and parents.
Since then, she has been wandering the wilds on her own. Yet she has not simply given up on her parents' dreams. Though not in the way they have hoped it to be, Chione has planned to spread their teachings, one way or another.
