It was dark and hot outside, and Rumor was asleep, so Finder was awake. The striped female sat out on the deck, staring into the blackness and smelling the water. The little sailboat rocked gently on the waves in the bay, moving just enough to rock the two cats to sleep. Except Finder. She would stay awake. Finder yawned, shook her head to keep herself awake, and stood up to pad around the deck of the small boat and stare into the shadows. It took about three minutes; no change. The dock was empty, the ancient lines that held the sailboat in place were as yet unbroken, and nobody was aboard their vessel. She stared in distaste at the dark water, but Rumor had claimed that there was no way they could get wet, and so she supposed they would be fine. the lines are fine but there might be a hole in the boat under the water i dont think it's moved any lower has it moved how do i tell.. After all, Rumor had sailed over the ocean from a far country to come here. She assumed he knew about boats. If he claimed the vessel they were on wouldn't sink then Finder supposed she believed him. More or less. She still had her doubts, which was why she was going around regularly, just in case.
She sat down again in the same spot as before, so she could see all the lines holding them to the pier, and stared into the darkness again. Her eyes faded out of focus after a minute, and she yawned loudly, oversize canines flashing in the faint moonlight. Finder could feel herself falling asleep, so she stood up and padded around, mumbling quietly under her breath. ...moon's going down rumor wakes up at midnight is there a hole in the boat.. The tabby female leaped up again and paced around the boat once more, checking the lines, looking at the waterline, sniffing for anything suspicious. Nothing. Something? A black shape that she thought she saw out the corner of her eye, over on the dock, slinking in the shadows. ..who's that probably a rat or a thief maybe a dog i don't know.. Finder crept as close as she dared to the edge of the vessel and stared hard into the darkness, green eyes narrowed suspiciously. After a moment she hissed gently at the shadows, hoping to scare out whoever was over there. There was definitely someone. She could hear their claws clicking on the concrete.
