The young canine was already over a month old; it wasn't taking her long to start learning the ropes of being in Tempest, either. Already, River held herself in a dignified, rigid manner. There was no room for nonsense in her schedule... well, maybe sometimes, but it was rare. After all, she had an image to uphold! As the strongest daughter of the alpha pair in Tempest, she needed to stay dignified, to become the great leader that she was destined to be. And so, that was how she stood. Rigid, in-line, completely stoic as she stared up at the night sky. Perhaps it was a bad idea that she had strayed so far from her parents tonight, but she was brave. Compared to her siblings, she was able to take anything. Indeed, it was probably a sad fact that she was this much healthier, this stronger compared to her three siblings. It wasn't fair, not at all, that she had gotten the good genes compared to them, but she took it as a blessing and used it in order to protect those weaker than her. She'd never let her siblings suffer. Sighing a little, her head drooped as she rested them on folded paws, her golden eyes unblinking as they absorbed the light of the moon. Her siblings would surely be up soon. It wasn't uncommon for them to find her at this part of the cliff, anyway. This was her favorite spot; she felt as though she could look through the whole land, scan the entirety of Hexasol for those damn cats and their scummy paws mucking up grounds that rightly belonged to the higher breed. Her lip curled. She would kill every last one of those damn things when she got bigger, stronger... she'd make her family proud. She'd make her mother proudest of all. A scent wafted through the air, causing her to turn her head over her shoulder. "Mm." She grunted a little in greeting, her fur bristling. Who was it that was about to disturb her peace?

"Speech"
Zeevi never had an easy time getting to sleep. Ever. He couldn't understand why it was so difficult. Spinning around exactly three times wasn't rocket science, after all, but for some reason, each time he plopped onto his belly, he had to get up and go through the motions again. They had been to short or too long to be exactly spins - and it was on the fifty-eighth time (he'd counted) that he decided enough was enough and he'd have to just focus on something else.
Earlier, he had noticed River get up from her spot by their mother and father and venture out of the Asylum. They really weren't supposed to leave on their own - but he had assumed she went out to relieve herself. Now, thirty-three times after he'd seen her leave, she hadn't come back. It was definitely time to investigate what was going on. Being very careful to count his steps in his head as he maneuvered around his brother, mother, and father, Zeev trotted out the door and slowly worked his way down the stairs. Stairs had always been a difficult task - not because he was small and the steps were steep - but because they always made him lose count of his steps and he'd have to start over at the top or bottom. It was frustrating. By now though, his parents and siblings had stopped trying to take him away from this vital activity. He couldn't help it. It just wasn't right to be off track.
"Eleven, thirteen, fifteen, seventeen, nineteen... twenty-one!" he whispered excitedly as he reached solid ground on the lower level. As he grew, his counts had become shorter. Zeevi was analytical enough to figure it was because his legs were getting longer - but there was something satisfying about this tedious task of his getting easier. At last, he was ready to begin to venture out towards River. "Twenty-three, twenty-five, twenty-seven..."
He followed her scent all the way to tooth cliff and paused, on his ninety-second step, immediately letting out a distressed whine that he had paused on an even number. Not only that, but it had given away his presence, and River was not the kindest of his siblings. She was so rigid and sometimes abrasive like their mother - it was intimidating - but deep down, Zeevi knew she loved him just as much as he loved her. He looked up to her, even. She was born so strong and fierce. He wondered if he would ever stop being so strange and amount to something like his sister.
"R-river? What are you doing out? Mom will get angry."

The big bad lion's gonna get yah! He's gonna eat yah! Gonna rip you to shreds and have you for his lunch!
London's leg twitched and he jolted awake, body quivering from fear. He didn't even know what a lion looked like, but they were a big black thing with teeth in his dreams. Flattening his ears to his head, London looked around the dark room where his family slept. Well. He narrowed his eyes. Where was Zeevi and River? Had they wandered off? Excitement sparked London to jump to all four paws, tail wagging enthusiastically. He could trace their scent! Yes, yes, yes! He slammed his nose to the ground, wincing a little, then he ran out of the cell in which the rest of his family slept, and began to follow the scent down the steps.
It was pleasantly warm outside, which surprised London. He remembered when it was cold. It had been horrible. He saw a bird, and London gasped with excitement. He wanted wings. He wanted to fly around everywhere. He wondered what the city would look like from the air. He almost asked the bird. But the bird wouldn't answer him. Looking away, London followed the scent to the cliffs. The cliffs were dangerous. He'd heard of another Tempest puppy falling to their death over here. He hadn't liked that story, he'd had nightmares from it. Tucking his tail in between his legs, London whined at the thought. He didn't want River or Zeevi falling to their deaths.
London saw Zeevi first. He paused a little way away, wondering whether he was going to start counting. The counting drove London nuts. There were more interesting things in the world than counting! Besides, numbers were boring and useless. He didn't need maths. London had sometimes wondered whether there was something a bit wrong with Zeevi. Although people thought that about London. He was very hyper. London couldn't see it. He just thought a lot. Thinking was nice.
Even further away, River sat. London swallowed. He was a bit scared of his sister. She almost didn't have a personality. At least, not one she showed off. He gulped again and then stood beside Zeevi. What was she even doing? She looked so rigid, she could be a statue. London decided to run over to her and push her, to see if she'd fall down. "Stop being all mysterious, River! Look, birds!" A crow called in the sky, and London grinned up at it.

It was funny, how each of Brooke and Bane's newest litter was funny and odd in their own ways. Each had a strange quirk, even her with her stoic personality and need to look out over the territory every night. It was no surprise that Zeevi noticed her behavior; for such a strange dog, he noticed everything. So when he came carefully hopping down the staircase, she didn't even blink, her head fixed back on the horizon. Zeevi wasn't a thread, obviously, so she wasn't worried anymore. Hah, as if a giant cat would even dare tread in Tempest territory. They all knew the ruthlessness of her parents... they feared that ruthlessness and kept at bay. Her lip curled lightly; one day, she would be just as ruthless... She looked over her shoulder again finally as Zeevi stopped counting. "You know I could hear you from a long ways away, right? That's no way to sneak up on the enemy," she said, her tail wagging twice (just to annoy him a little) before she sat up a bit straighter. She was their mentor, after all! Speaking of "their," where was London? He would surely be coming up s- there he was, the little chocolate ball of energy. Both of them were so noisy... but then again, she was the strangest of the three, not even wanting to act like a puppy. She had to train, to be sure she would be ready for anything. She parted her lips to speak once more before London barrelled right into her side, causing her to stumble and flop onto her side. "Oww, damnit London..." she muttered with ears flopping back on her skull. She looked to glare at the two, but then couldn't help getting up to nose London a bit to try and get him to topple in the same manner. She had energy, that was all. She just had to get the energy out. "It's dangerous over here, let's move back," she stated, still ignoring Zeevi's questioning. She didn't care if Mom got mad about her being so far away. She was doing a duty. Brooke out of anyone would surely understand that. [/quote]
