"Speech" Vertigo looked around at her surroundings, brows furrowing delicately in curiosity before they smoothed out and she continued onwards, watching everything around her with avid interest. She was so happy to be out and about, knowing that she had a Pride to go back to when she was tired of exploring for the day. It contented her to know such things, and as such she was more eager to head back than perhaps she was to go out in the first place. But even so, this place, Avalon lake she believed it was called, was an interesting place, even as-her eyes jumped upwards at the sound of wings upon the air, and she watched with wide, almost child-like eyes as the bird flew past, no doubt searching for some peace from the relentless heat. Well, there would be relief soon enough. Night was approaching, the slow roll of the sun across the sky announcing the arrival of the moon as it slid ever closer to its own place in the sky, forcing her to decide if she wished to stay the night or make her way back to Iris territories. But even as the night approached, she couldn’t bring herself to leave this place of wonder, the explorations to be had were endless, and she knew that by night all would settle, and only the serious would be up and about, leaving her free to do as she wished with virtually no interruptions. That meant by cat and dog too.
Though mainly canine, as they didn’t seem to be as good in the dark as their feline counterparts were. And that was good as far as she was concerned. Canines didn’t deserve such privileges as the felines were given. They deserved what they had coming for them, and they were all going to lose. Verti shook out her soft pelt and padded through the last of the bushes to break free onto the banks of Avalon Lake, gleaming and magnificent with the reflection of the setting sun burning across its watery depths. She padded a bit closer to the waters and sat down, deciding to watch the sun set in a completely spontaneous thing, something she was famous for. The tabby female was happy for this undisturbed peace, preferring it to when those around her constantly belittled and looked down upon her for being who she was, an assumed idiot. It certainly was no fault of hers that she was born with a hyperactive metabolism that led to her inability to sit still, and her short attention span. But even so, as she sat there, blue gaze on the horizon, tail curled neatly about her paws, she wondered what it was like to have a friend, a friend that wouldn’t make fun of her, wouldn’t call her names of look down on her. And in seeming tangent with those words, she heard noises of an approaching stranger, and she tensed up, eyes flickering around as she stood and turned, waiting. ”Who’s there?” She said, fighting to keep her voice even.

"Speech."
Salazar trotted along the water's edge after stretching his legs making sure he was nice and fit. Every day, where ever he was he always made sure to run for a bit around the perimeter. Today his running had brought him to the lake that seemed to calm the black cat down with it's rolling waves. Even though, water wasn't something he liked, being near water gave Salazar some comfort. Looking around the area, he cautiously edged toward the lake. Lapping up the cool water, he sighed happily as the cold water entered his body. Satisfied, he did a quick grooming before headed off further down the sandy trail around the lake.
Sniffing the air, Salazar picked up the smell of an injured rabbit. Looking around, Salazar followed the trail on silent paws, keeping his eyes pricked for danger. As the scent trail became stronger, the raven black cat picked up his pace, making sure to keep quiet. A few minutes later, Salazar sank onto his belly watching his intended meal munching on some short grass. Scaning the rabbit's body, Salazar noticed a few deep gashes on the rabbit's fur. Once more, the black cat lifted it's ears to see if anything else moved in the quiet field, he had found himself in. Scenting the air, Salazar knew he wasn't too far away from the lake and turned his attention back to the rabbit.
Preparing himself, the black cat extended his claws and crept closer to the rabbit who continued to munch on the grass. Stopping again, Salzar took a deep breath, and raised himself so he was on his haunches, ready to pounce. Watching the rabbit with his yellow eyes, Salzar took the chance and pounced, startling the rabbit. Too late, Salzar had already grabbed hold of the rabbit's neck and quickly killed it with a bit to it's already injured beck. Licking the blood from his black fur, Salzar took to work eating the plump rabbit.
When he had eaten half of the rabbit carcass, Salazar sighed and padded back down the trail he had come from towards the lake again. After a few back tracks and some retracing, Salzar finally saw the shimmering black lake he had found previously. Only this time, something caught his nose and he hissed. It was another feline and even though, it wasn't his territory as of yet, Salazar still was not pleased. Looking towards the lake edge, he sighed knowing he wouldn't be able to sleep without knowing what visior had come to the lake as well.
Retracting his claws, he padded towards the place where his nose had detected this nighttime visitor. Keeping quiet and using the shadows to his advantage, Salzar followed the scent, made easier by a set of pawprints. 'Well, whoever it is, clearly didn't make any attempt on concealing her whereabouts,' thought Salzar as he continued on.
Finally, after several minutes, Salzar stopped and crouched behind a rock peeking around to see a beautiful tabby cat laying on the sand. She was beautiful or so he thought only to hiss under his breath when another beautiful female grey cat entered his mind. Shaking his head, he flinched when one of his back paws hit a small branch, snapping it in two. He wouldn't have moved except when the voice of the female cat reached his ears.
Cursing his luck, Salazar leaped onto the large rock and lay down, keeping his body relaxed so as not to seem threatening. Even though, he was fighter by nature Salzar rarely attacked another cat unless he was provoked, especially when it came to females. Another image of a beautfiul grey feline with a large belly flickered behind his mind's eye and he shook his head again.
Flicking his tail, he turned his yellow eyes on the female cat gasping when he saw a pair of beautiful blue eyes staring back at him. Keeping his voice calm he said,"Forgive me, miss. I did not mean to startle you.I was simply roaming the lake's edge and was not intending to have company. My Salzar Slytherin, but you may call me Salazar." He then turned his head away and continued to lie on the the rock contently as he waited for the tabby to say something.

"Speech" Vertigo tried to keep from bounding around, seeing as she was finding it hard in general to sit still for even a few moments, but she didn’t want to move, because the setting sun was proving so beautiful, she could hardly resist. Her vibrant cobalt eyes glimmered with the light of the setting sun as she curled her tail closer around her paws, head tilting in thought as she turned inwards to fight moving outwardly. As the sun began to set, the moon rising at a swift pace, she found peace, there on the banks of the lake.
It wasn’t much longer until the sun was gone, the moon high in the sky, leaving her in the darkness, her pale brown tabby pelt seeming almost luminous in the darkness. Night was her favorite time of the day. After all, she knew that she was most at home amongst the creatures, as well as she didn’t feel the need to be so rigid, so controlled. As though marking this change, she began to move, her ears swiveling, tail unwrapping to curl and uncurl lazily, her eyes following the lines of anything that happened to catch her interest.
The female held in a yawn and stretched out her limbs, rising to her paws to linger closer to the water, lowering her head to lap at the liquid lazily and then darting back towards the forest, her eyes alight with curiosity and energy, as they almost always were. She knew she received her intelligence from others, but she knew that her high energy was good, kept her going long after everyone else had given in or given up.
The sound of a branch snapping had her head whipping around, eyes narrowing slowly before she twitched an ear and rolled her head over at a more sedate pace, her body following in turn before she spoke up, eyes narrowed in distrust and worry. After all, many died when they didn’t have the watchfulness they needed. Verti bit back a growl as she knew that this very well could be a feline that was far bigger than she, which truthfully wasn’t hard, or that the stranger could be a canine.
Then when she caught sight of movement, and turned her head to see another cat leap up onto a large rock, laying down, his body relaxed, as though he believed her to be no threat. Well, she supposed it was better than other options. So she padded a few steps closer, her head tilted curiously, seeing his head shake. He looked older than she, which honestly wasn’t hard to find, and he was all black, with yellow eyes.
He flicked his tail, turning those yellow eyes on her, gasping as he saw her eyes, and she tilted her head curiously, wondering why he had gasped. The tom was very handsome, as she knew that she would most likely have to worry about stammering or messing up her words possibly should he interact with her. "Forgive me, miss. I did not mean to startle you. I was simply roaming the lake's edge and was not intending to have company. My name is Salazar Slytherin, but you may call me Salazar." He said, turning his head away and continued to lie on the rock, waiting for her.
”It’s alright. I just wasn’t expecting anyone. It’s nice to meet you Salazar, I’m Vertigo.” She said gently, before her head turned as she watched shadows flicker across the ground, her ears pricking forwards. ”What brings you to the lake?” She asked after a moment, tearing her gaze away to turn back to him, waiting patiently, tail flicking.

"Speech."
Salazar lifted his head again when the female spoke and simply lifted himself into a sitting posistion slowly and cautiously, making sure not to look like he would attack her. Which he wouldn't unless she attacked him first, he smirked and simply turned back to her face to say, "Yes, well Vertigo, I find the lake helps to calm my nerves and bring me some comfort when ever I feel sad. I did not mean to disturb you."
Salazar then looked out to the black lake, purring contently when he spotted the moon reflecting in the black waters. He wish he could swim, but knew that it was not something that woild be thrilling after he tried it. Still, the water calmed his tensed nerves, making him relax his tensed body. He yawned and then turned back to the female and asked her, "What is a pretty tabby like you doing by yourself by this lovely lake?"
Once more he shook his head, trying to rid himself of the accusing looks the grey tabby in his mind kept giving him. He wasn’t planning on breaking his vow to the pretty female he had pledged his love to so long ago, but it didn’t mean he should be mean to the pretty female. Besides, what would a pretty feline like that want with a rogue feline like him anyways. His spirit had been broken those years ago when his love had died and he was left empty and resentful. He wouldn’t even know what to do if another female found her way into his stone-cold heart.

"Speech" Vertigo watched the other male carefully, unwilling to let her guard down as he lifted himself into a sitting position slowly, smirking as he turned to face her in order to speak. "Yes, well Vertigo, I find the lake helps to calm my nerves and bring me some comfort whenever I feel sad. I did not mean to disturb you." He said and she frowned slightly, tipping her head back on the side for a long moment only to let a roll of her shoulders set her at ease once more and she blinked. ”Well, I am sorry to know that you are sad, and you did not disturb me, not really. I-don’t you just love how the moon reflects on the water? It’s beautiful.“
Her words were kind, though soft and flipped topics not long into her sentence. The new thought topic happened to be the moon. She wondered just what it would be like to see the moon from upon a large hill or mountain at this night, with the sky being so clear. She heard his content purr before he yawned and turned back to her, asking, "What is a pretty tabby like you doing by yourself by this lovely lake?" His words made her smile faintly, shaking her head gently, though her brilliant blue gaze was warm.
”I came seeking peace, refuge, at least for a little while.” She said quietly, before outstretching on her belly, drawing her tongue over one paw before lifting her gaze to his. Verti wasn’t afraid to admit what made her seek that refuge, but if he was just like all the rest she wasn’t going to waste her breath on something futile. But if he wasn’t like the rest, didn’t think her stupid, then perhaps it would be worth talking to him.

"Speech."
Salazar eyed the young tabby curiously as he padded down off the rock and around so they were both on the sandy ground. He understood what it felt like to need some time to be alone and find some time to relax. He was shocked that the feline said she didn’t like that he was sad, but he brushed it off and stretched, retracting his claws. Slowly, he padded over the lake’s edge and lapped up some of the gentle water with his tongue. The cold water felt heavenly and urged the black cat to slowly put his paws into the water, drawing them back when he realized just how cold the water actually was. Still, it couldn’t be helped that he loved listening to the water hit the edges or watch the ripples. It was almost magical to the older black cat. The image of a grey cat’s limp body in the water’s reflection made the black cat hiss and pad away from the water’s edge.
He was so upset and he knew he only had himself to blame which hurt a lot. If he hadn’t insisted that he go hunting, she might have still been alive, but he had only thought of himself and gone off anyways. When he had come back, he was beyond grief and ran to her limp body. It wasn’t hard to figure out what had killed her as the scent of dog was all over her fur coat and dog urine had been around the burrow. Now, her image was a constant reminder of his thoughtlessness. He groaned angrily and treaded further away from the female, hiding the sadness he felt as he headed back to his spot. Yet, behind the stone cold heart, something further down broke at leaving the female tabby to herself. Grief pushed on him from all sides, causing pain in the black cat, but still he didn’t look back at the female for fear of hope and a second chance to love.

"Speech" Vertigo watched the older male curiously even as he eyed her, padding down off of the rock he had been on, and around so that they were both upon the same ground. She tilted her head slightly, catching his shock even as he stretched and padded to the lake’s edge, lapping at the water before slipping his paws in. His hiss had her twisting around, tail flicking back and forth as she struggled to keep quiet rather than blabber on and on, which she didn’t think he would like very much. The brown tabby pondered on what she should do. She knew little of Salazar, only that he was cautious, seemed to know the area at least somewhat better than she, and had gone through quite a bit in his lifetime. Far more than she had, even though she still carried the scars from her traumatizing ordeal. After some long moments, she decided to wait a bit longer, see what he was going to do, whether he was going to say something, anything to change the silence between them.
The black tom seemed upset about something, and she wondered if perhaps it was something she had done, tough how was she to know? He hadn’t said much, and she got the feeling it wasn’t easy to get him to talk. His angry groan was no help as he padded further from her, and she rose to her paws, something within her forcing her to keep from letting him leave just like that. Verti wasn’t heartless, and she certainly wasn’t going to back away from someone in as much pain as he was. The brown tabby padded after him quietly, gaining up to his position and drawing even at his side, turning her vibrant blue eyes to look at him worriedly. ”What’s wrong? Was it something I said? If it was, I’m sorry. I don’t mean to be rude or hurtful most times, but sometimes I just can’t help it. no brain to mouth filter sometimes, unfortunately.” She rambled, and then shut up abruptly, looking down at her paws self-consciously, flushing beneath her fur.

"Speech."
Salazar didn’t need to turn his head as he walked along the sandy trail to know that the young tabby, Vertigo had decided to follow him. He wasn’t as bothered by her following him as he wanted to be, but it still meant that he’d have to say something. As they padded along the lake, with Salazar occasionally flicking his gaze to the side to look her, he had to admit it was a nice change. He sighed heavily, looking at the moon reflected on the water. Suddenly, Salazar turned his head when he caught the young feline beside him started speaking. She thought she had been the cause of his sadness, which was far from the truth. As much as he wanted, to ignore the comment he knew that it would do no good for her to get the wrong idea.
Coming to a stop, he turned his gaze onto the brown tabby with the blue eyes that looked so much like his previous mate. Taking a deep breath he said, ”I can assure you, Vertigo. You have done nothing or said anything to upset me. I am merely upset because of something that happened along time ago. You should show more confidence when you speak. I sense you have a lot to say about the world.”
Salazar then returned to his trek along the path , deciding that maybe he should try and eat some more of that rabbit carcass if he could find it. Looking around, he spotted his old pawmarks that had lead to the plump rabbit. With the promise of another small meal, Salazar darted along the path, not waiting to see if the young cat would follow or not. A few minutes later and he was back in the clearing where he had killed the first rabbit. The carcass was gone, but the scent of prey was still strong and Salazar scanned the clearing for movement. A small movement caused, Salazar to slowly turn his head to right, just in time to see a large badger munching on some crisp grass.

"Speech" Vertigo didn’t like seeing others sad, at least those who didn’t seem to be just like everyone else. After all, she wasn’t heartless, wasn’t cruel or unkind. She liked spending time with others. It was just that…well; maybe she wasn’t the best at socializing. And she knew that. Following after the older tom, however, felt nice, it felt right, even as he didn’t seem hostile against her doing so, and for that she was relieved. He came to a stop and turned his gaze onto her, drawing in a deep breath. ”I can assure you, Vertigo. You have done nothing or said anything to upset me. I am merely upset because of something that happened a long time ago. You should show more confidence when you speak. I sense you have a lot to say about the world.” He said, and she smiled faintly, her tail flicking.
”Normally when I talk people don’t listen. But otherwise…I’m glad to know it wasn’t me.” She said softly, her head tilting to the side before he then continued onwards, not looking back to see if she was there. Verti followed after him once more, seeing him come to a stop in a clearing that held his scent from earlier. She looked around, catching the scent of prey before she caught another stronger, muskier scent that set her fur on end.
She saw the badger, and her eyes went wide, just as it lifted its head and glared at them, stocky, bulky form tightening up with tension as it stared them down. The brown tabby female saw it eying up the bigger of the two, the more dangerous of the two, and she knew it was Salazar. Her eyes widened further with worry for the older tom, even as the badger lumbered forward, intent on going at the cat who’d disturbed his hunting peace. She darted forward, raking her claws against the predator’s muzzle, earning a chuffing yowl that had her fur on end. Even as she tried to back out of the way, only to slip on mud, sending her crashing to the ground, at the mercy of the badger that was currently bearing down on her. Vertigo scrambled backwards, only to feel the animal’s claws latching onto her hind leg, earning a hiss of pain, her eyes filling with tears at the intense feeling.

"Speech." Fear is a powerful motivator, almost as much as love if not equal as powerful when faced with a terrifying situation. Salazar had been watching Vertigo, so he hadn’t seen the badger charge at him, angrily. He was able to watch in horror as the young female charged at the badger and attempted to drive it off. Memories of his first mate swam before his eyes, threatening to consume as the same thing seemed to play out before her. However, the image was gone when he heard a pain-filled scream tore out of the tabby’s throat. He shook his head and hissed angrily at the badger that had now grabbed onto Veritgo’s hind leg, opening cuts in her thin legs. Feelings long since forgotten, began to show themselves in the cold-hearted black cat.
A rush to protect Vertigo, urged Salazar to race to the tabby’s aid, latching himself onto the badger’s back. Digging his claws into the badger’s strong hide, had the badger twist away from Vertigo and intent on removing this new attacker. Salazar fell, landing with a thump on the hard ground, knocking the wind out of him and slightly disoriented. Shaking the dust from the fur coat, he turned back to the badger that had returned it’s attention to Vertigo. He saw blood staining the badger’s black and white fur as he ran once more at the deadly carnivore. The badger turned hearing, the black cat racing towards him, but Salazar was much quicker than the big muscular animal.
He easily sidestepped away from the enraged badger, pouncing on it’s back again and tearing more wounds into it’s slowly weakening body. Salazar attempted to clamp down onto the creature’s throat, but it raised up on it’s hind legs, throwing Salazar to the side where he smacked into a tree trunk. He lay still, trying to raise weakly to his feet to finish it off. Every limb hurt and every muscle ached, beckoning him to lie down. He wanted to welcome sleep, but Vertigo wasn’t out of danger yet and neither was he or any other animal. Amazingly, Salazar pushed himself to his feet, bracing himself for a minute trying to focus on the big black and white creature.
The badger, meanwhile had gone after Vertigo, charging at her and managing to grab her already injured hind leg in his teeth. He didn’t bit down hard, because a moment later, he screamed in anger when something grabbed it by the throat. It twisted it’s head violently, only to see a black cat glaring at him angrily a few centimetres away. For once in it’s long life as a appex prediator, the badger’s eyes reflected fear as Salazar rushed at him, ripping it’s throat, ending it’s life. Panting heavily, he slowly limped over to Vertigo, knowing he was in better shape than she was. Unlike her, the badger had only managed to knock him around, never laying his teeth or claws on him. Sure he had a few scratches, but nothing deep, more superficial and would heal easily enough.
Anger, relief and fear mixed together so completely that in the end, Salazar ended up yelling at the poor female tabby saying, ”You idiot! What were you thinking attacking that badger. You don’t even know me. That thing could have killed you and then I would have had another thing to be guilty over. If something happened to you. A reckless kitten! You’re crazy! What ever gave ou the idea that you should attack that badger. You’re lucky he didn’t kill you.”
He then shook his head and padded over to the limp body of the badger, tearing off a reasonable size piece and trottefd back over to the tabby.

"Speech" Vertigo held back her whimpers of pain as she watched the looming badger bear down on her once more, only to find that Salazar had leapt upon its back, biting down hard before being shaken off for the badger in favor of going after her for getting in the way, and most of all for drawing blood. She heard the hard thud of the tom hitting the ground before her attention was riveted on the looming predator as it growled and snarled at her, lumbering over before even turning to face the stronger threat. She turned her head as well to see Salazar making another charge at the beast in a fight to protect her. He didn’t have to stick around, even with the fact that she’d jumped in front of the badger to keep him from harm, she wouldn’t have been surprised had he run for his own life. But there he was, making another go at the enraged brute.
He made sidestepping away from the enraged badger look easy, pouncing on its back once more and tearing more wounds into its hide. The black tom attempted to go for the animal’s throat but before he could it rose up and threw him off, going after her, the easier prey, once more. Now it was personal, and she knew she was seen as the cause of all of this as he loomed over her once more, clamping his strong jaws onto her hind leg once more, pulling a pain filled cry from her throat as she fought to get away, clawing at his muzzle with weakening intensity, fighting to get free with what strength she had left. She knew he didn’t get a chance to bite down as hard as before as Salazar leapt at it again, clamping down hard on its throat before ending its life. Limping and panting, the male made his way over to her, and she saw that he seemed in better shape than she was, so at least that was some consolation for this mess.
Anger, fear, and relief churned together to create a potent mix, ending with the result of his yelling at her, the words being sorted as, ”You idiot! What were you thinking attacking that badger? You don’t even know me. That thing could have killed you and then I would have had another thing to be guilty over. If something happened to you. A reckless kitten! You’re crazy! Whatever gave you the idea that you should attack that badger. You’re lucky he didn’t kill you.” He then shook his head before padding over to the carcass of the badger, tearing off a piece before trotting back to her. She sat up slowly, soft features filled with pain even as she began the long, arduous process of cleaning her wounds, knowing if she didn’t they would fester and form an infection. ”If I hadn’t done what I did, you would very well be dead right now.” She said after a long moment, lifting her head to meet his gaze defiantly. ”If you want me to be sorry for keeping you safe, you won’t find it in me.”

"Speech."
Salazar ignored the tabby's insistence that she had saved his life, mainly because he was out of his comfort zone and he still had the meat dangling from his mouth. Placing it beside her head, Salazar motioned for her to eat while he limped back over to the badger carcass. Seeing as he had already, ripped open the carcass he was able to start grabbing at the muscles. He ate enough so he wouldn't starve, but hardly enough to satisfy his body. Still, he would have to ration this carcass and anything else he caught in the clearing. Looking around, he noticed that the clearing was dangerously wide open. He looked back to Vertigo, who he could see would have a hard time moving anytime soon.
’Why are you doing this, Sal? Why aren't you leaving her?’ snapped an angry voice in his mind. Salazar shook his head, only to realize he was becoming slightly dizzy and something warm was running down his face. He cursed quietly and decided to do a quick perimeter check before he had to rest. He didn't think he had a concussion, but it was better he kept moving in case it was more serious.
Keeping his ears up, he started to pad around the large clearing, making sure to stop every few minutes to mark the edge of what would likely be their home for a few days. At least, until Vertigo was able to walk a little better. Luckily, the badger was big for his size and very bulky so Salazar figured they could last at least a week if they ate small pieces of meat. Shaking his head once more, he continued his routine of sniffing, marking and walking. It took awhile, but eventually he ended up where he had started and already he felt exhausted. Killing that badger had used up a large amount of his energy and adrenaline had sapped the rest.
Struggling back over to Vertigo, he brushed past her, preferring to stay silent before his mouth betrayed him or more importantly the same thing that had awoken his protective side. Stretching, he circled in a patch of grass a few times before he slowly lowered himself to the ground. He then turned to Vertigo and said that he would take first watch and for her to get some sleep. He wasn't of course planning on waking her up, but she didn't need to know that.
Turning his gaze upward, his thoughts turned once more to the young tabby that had haunted him since that fateful night. He remembered the night all too well, and he would never forget hearing the howl after he had found her body. After he was done with this female, he was determined to continue following the pack’s trail. Until then, he knew that closure was only a distant goal that was just out of reach. He didn't deserve happiness and certainly didn't deserve to live. No, he would kill that pack or die trying; death being greatly welcomed. With those thoughts in mind, he lay his head on his paws and watched as the noises of night crept up on him.

"Speech" Vertigo watched as he ignored her words, placing the meat beside her head and motioning for her to eat as he limped back to the badger carcass. She frowned faintly, but sat up and began to eat, polishing the meat off swiftly before looking around them, her eyes narrowing in thought. They were far too open, too vulnerable, and she knew that was partially her fault. But not all her fault because she hadn’t called the badger to this spot, hadn’t asked it to attack, to go after Salazar. She’d only wanted to protect him, keep him from getting hurt, as she would any other cat around her, and he’d ignored her, dismissed her efforts just short of abandoning her.
She shook her head faintly, ears slanted back as she turned to look at her wounds, to inspect them and see how bad they were. Frowning slightly, she twisted back around and then stood, putting no weight on her hind leg as she moved towards a little stream that trickled along the edge of the clearing, blissfully close to her current location. By the time she reached the stream, she was panting, pain shooting through her leg and making her bite down hard to avoid crying out. Her eyes squeezed shut for a long moment, pain written over her features before she let out a slow breath and moved to gather some moss from the banks of the stream. As she began the painstaking task of packing her wounds, she heard Salazar announce that he was taking first watch, and she frowned again, but said nothing else.
She’d packed her wounds tight with the absorbent moss, and then searched around for something to wrap around it to keep it tightly in place. She didn’t find anything, so that meant she would have to lie still, so she picked up some more moss and made the painfully slow crossing to where Salazar was. She all but collapsed beside him, inspecting the moss to make sure not too much had fallen off, before turning to the cat who currently seemed deep in thought. Seeing the blood on his pelt sent worry through her, and she moved a bit closer hesitantly to start cleaning it from his fur, cleaning his wounds while she did, hoping he wouldn’t push her away.

"Speech."
Salazar had been listening to noises of the night when he heard Vertigo start moving around and slowly head over to the small stream. He was tempted to help her, but he figured she was able to well enough and he was already upset with himself for getting himself so close to her. Instead, he turned back to scanning the clearing looking for any signs that something out there was moving towards them and could be dangerous. He could hear her moving, but he didn't dare turn his head back towards her in fear that she might need his help. No, she was not really his to worry about, he would help until she was back on her feet and then he would leave her before she got any closer to him.
He was just dozing off when he heard Vertigo start padding back over to him, felt her collapse beside him making him flinch a little, before relaxing. It was normal that after such a traumatic attack moments ago that she would want to be close to him incase something happened, but it didn't mean he was thrilled with it. Sighing, he lay his head on his front paws, content to rest his head and put less strain on his neck . It hurt more than it had originally, but Salazar was use to it and didn't really care because of his high pain tolerance. He was just closing his eyes, when he felt something touch his fur coat making him flinch and turn to see Vertigo had inched closer to him.
He was prepared to yell at her and tell her she had no right to just come over and start licking him like he was her friend or mate, but something held him back. It was the look that seemed so similar to his beloved Pearl that he didn't have the heart to push her away and simply settled for putting up with it. Not to mention, his whole body ached and he knew he was in no condition to go anywhere until the next morning at least.
Still he couldn't help but ask, "What are you doing? More importantly why are you doing this? You don't even really know me."
