CAIN
5 - male - cat - Turkish Angora - loner
Personality: He never fully matured past his teenage years, retaining a simple, plain view of the world and its inhabitants. For Cain, emotions are sharply divided into positive and negative, with little differentiation between different feelings within those two categories: he pursues things that illicit a pleasant emotion, and avoids things that do the opposite. His experiences as a kitten led him to be fearful of the world, and for a short year or so he was nervous, timid. However, after exploring more and encountering others, he has discovered that a less serious view of the world is easier to live with, and therefore thinks nothing of the consequences of his actions, behaving brashly and crudely in most situations. He sees fear to be weak, lacks sensitivity, and enjoys making others fear so that he can ridicule them. He has a cruel childishness to him, thinking nothing of harming others as long as it is pleasant to him. Causing pain to others is one of the few things in which he finds pure joy. He is heavily dependent on his younger brother, Elijah, who acts as an anchoring point, to stop him from detaching himself so fully from his actions that he behaves unforgivably. While he is, at best, ambivalent to strangers, but possessive to the point of destruction toward anybody he desires as a friend or mate.
Appearance: Long and lean, lacking the muscle of a stronger cat, but with smooth, compact muscle. He is long-legged, with large ears and eyes, and a tail that's slightly shorter than his breed's average. Altogether, he is an attractive cat, though retaining a look of lanky immaturity. His coat is long, and white, though he his less diligent in his cleaning than he should be, leaving him dirty a lot of the time, and his hair is often matted. It usually takes a reminder from his brother for him to thoroughly groom himself. His eyes are bright, one being pale green, the other a clear pale blue.
History: Born to a litter of six, Cain was the eldest, followed by his brother Elijah. They were the only two boys, and their father showed much more interest in them as a result. Their mother, already distant, gave what little attention she spared to her daughters, ignoring Cain and Elijah almost entirely beyond what was necessary for them to survive. Their father wanted Cain and Elijah to be strong-willed, prepared to face the world when they ventured out, though his teachings were enough to frighten the young kittens. This, combined with their mother's neglect, caused Cain and Elijah to rely more heavily on each other, rather than the instability their parents provided. When they were four months old, a fire destroyed the house they had lived in since birth, and they were forced to leave.
Their father relocated them to the closest available colony, a male-dominant society, where his teachings became more severe to adhere to the attitudes of the other males. Being in the testosterone-fueled environment seemed to bring out a new wave of brutality in their father, and he was soon joining the other members of the group on their hunts, and their attacks on rival Groups. Cain was fascinated by the individuals they would return with, and would watch in secret as they were attacked and humiliated, eventually being killed if they were male, and kept for their captor's use if female. Cain's morbid fascination grew with age, until, at a year old, he grew tired of spectating and became part of the attack. He very quickly became respected by the other members of his group, due to his joyful brutality and lack of empathy. He rarely showed anger during an attack, something envied by his team mates.
While his younger, gentler brother would tolerate Cain's attack and murder of rivaling males, he prevented his brother from forcing himself on females by reminding him that he would not like to see their mother and sisters used in the same way. Their mother passed away when they were three years old, her old body not able to handle the snow one winter. Unable to bear the loss of somebody held so dear to him, Cain decided to leave the site. Elijah joined him with little hesitation, and the pair didn't visit their remaining family again.
